How the Nazi's used Propaganda
The Nazi's used plenty of tactics to surround the people every second of their lives with propaganda. They would take over the newspapers, which at the time were one of the main ways people got their news. The Nazi's would fill the newspapers with topics about Nazi ideology, hatred for the Treaty of Versailles, and other topics strengthening the ideas of the Nazi party. The Nazi's would have control of every form of newspaper, so there was nowhere anybody could go for any sort of non Nazi news.
The Nazi's would also organize speeches. Hitler highlighted in his book Mein Kampf that people would find a public speaker more empowering than a simple reading, if the speaker could do it correctly. Posters were also a big part of Nazi propaganda. They were aimed surround everybody in the occupied areas, everywhere you would look, there would be posters. Unlike the Nazi plagued news papers and the public speaking, the posters were absolutely unavoidable, unless you were to never leave your house.
Films were also used as a form of propaganda. The films would be funded partially, if not totally by the government. They were made to show the military strength of Germany, or to just target enemies of the Nazi party and make them look like savages. Films were promoted by the Nazi's, offering tax breaks to the producer if the film was deemed valuable. This promoted censorship and led to a very effective form of propaganda. The films were also shown in schools to target the children. The schools were actually granted motion picture projectors to show these films.
Books and text books were also used in Nazi Germany to promote Nazi ideas. New books were published that expressed the ideas of the Nazi's while old books were destroyed during book burnings, where people would organize a date and time for the people to come and burn their books deemed non German. Text books were also given the same treatment. The new text books that were out in schools were full of propaganda. Literature books were filled with German spirit, while Biology books were filled with racial theories. These were types of things like being able to pick out a Jew based on "Jewish traits" versus "German traits". Teachers were also told to present Jews, and handicapped people as dangers to society.
The radio was also another key aspect of German propaganda, it allowed the Nazi's to constantly pump out propaganda directly into peoples homes. The radio would also be played through loudspeakers in public areas, such as markets and public buildings. Eventually when the idea of a man talking though a box lost peoples total interest the Nazi's added other programs to their radio stations. They added music, shows, and other entertaining things to keep people tuned into the station, and ready to listen rather than tuning into the enemy stations filled with propaganda.
The Nazi party also used art to express Nazi ideas. They had artists create sculptures expressing the ideas of the Aryan race. Artists would often make sculptures of Aryan men, supposed to be physically perfect. Plenty of other pieces of artwork were put into production that showed perfection of the Nazi ideas, and why they were superior to any other race, or set of ideas.
